How do perler beads stick together

Another important thing to consider when ironing your perler beads is that the iron should not touch any of the parts of the peg board that do not have beads on it. Otherwise you risk melting the plastic peg board. Once you have melted the beads together you can peel the beads along with the parchment paper off of the peg board. Lay the parchment paper side down on the ironing board and cover the exposed side of the perler bead design with another sheet of parchment paper.

It should be sandwiched now between two parchment paper sheets. Now you are going to repeat the first step and iron the other side of the perler beads until they have reached the desired texture and are completely fused together on both sides. You want to take a very heavy book and lay it on top of the parchment paper covered perler beads. Leave the book in place until the perler beads have cooled.

Once cooled remove the book and peel away the parchment paper from both sides of the perler beads. Set your perler bead design on a metal heat-proof surface, such as a baking sheet. Place the parchment paper under the design instead of over it, as the candle will be heating it from below. Hold the tray over the candle and move it around so that all of the perler beads get heated evenly. You could also use several candles and place a tray with the perler beads above them.

Put the tealight candles in holders that have other air pockets so the flame does not go out, similar to these. Preheat the oven to a low temperature, or around degrees. This might take longer to sufficiently melt the perler beads but if you set the oven to a higher temperature, you risk the beads running together.

Place your design on a baking tray with a sheet of parchment paper underneath it. Make sure that you stay by the oven and watch its progress. Just place parchment paper over your creation before heating it.

Otherwise, you may blow off your beads from the pegboard. Another approach to melting your Perler pellets is by using unscented candles. Compared to the previous methods, this technique may take some time and more effort.

For this method, place your unscented candle on a flat surface. Next, put parchment paper and then your pegboard on a baking tray. Remember that the parchment paper has to be underneath your design. After that, hold the tray over the candle. Through this, you can ensure that your beads will heat evenly.

We also suggest wearing oven mitts when doing this to prevent getting burned. Like the candle approach, you can also use your handy lighter to melt your Perler pellets. You only need to cover your pegboard with parchment paper. Next, move the flame around your design. Once melted, flip it to the other side and do the same process. When doing this, make sure to put the flame over the pegboard.

We also recommend checking your pegboard regularly to ensure that the pellets are melting evenly. But this also leaves us wondering if there are any substitutes for parchment paper. Believe it or not, there are alternatives to parchment paper. Once you're happy with the design, preheat a dry household iron to its medium or high setting.

Do not add water to your iron , otherwise the steam will ruin the beads! Cover the beads with a sheet of ironing paper. Keep the iron level and slowly move it in a circular motion for about 30 seconds while pressing the beads very gently. Be careful not to bump the beads from the pegboard. It's generally a good idea to first iron those beads on the edges as they are prone to toppling over until they are melted and fused together.

If some beads tip over, put away the iron immediately. Use a toothpick or tweezer to place the beads back onto the pegs. When you're done with one side, put some heavy books on top of the ironing paper to even out the surface. Without the pressure, heated beads may start warping. Wait for a minute or so. Once the beads cool off, gently peel off the ironing paper. Carefully lift the now fused beads from the pegboard and flip them over.
