How does elie wiesel feel about god

He was placed in Birkenau, near Auschwitz, a concentration camp at the time of the Holocaust. While in the camp, Elie sees and hears many things about why they are doing these things ot the jews.

At the beginning of the novel Elie is very religious, and throughout the story that changes very quickly. He watches several people die, including his father, which also is in impact on his faith to god. Elie loses his faith in god, his family, and humanity through all of the experiences he had to go through while being in the Nazi concentration.

So I got up. The only reason he had gotten up because he had waited and waited to see Jesus and the other little boy had also lied about seeing Jesus. Hughes was the last person in the church that was. Eliezer breaks his narrative tone to tell the reader that his faith, which was previously the focal point of his life, is now in shambles.

Thus, putting Eliezer into a crisis as he does not know where to turn after witnessing such atrocities. Although, he finishes the quote stating he will never forget the things he witnessed as long as God lives himself. Which, symbolizes the fact that he can never abandon his faith completely, even if he struggles to understand God at this time. Therefore, this passage holds such value in the memoir as it is the first time Eliezer openly struggles with his faith and devotion in God through the use of literary.

But in the book Night Elie had went through the stage of depression mostly when his father died. After his father died in Buchenwald he still stayed there for a couple more months Elie was in a rough patch where nothing mattered anymore.

It no longer mattered. Moshe was once a man with a strong faith in God, but after seeing many awful things happen such as, people being killed and tortured and babies getting thrown in the air to be used as targets, he struggles to believe in God.

He often pondered whether God was real, and if he was, why would he let such awful things happen to innocent people? Soon after, his father was beaten and put to death, but Elie had no emotions. Three months later, the camp was liberated, and Eliezer was freed. Eliezer was only a teenager when taken by German soldiers.

On his first night at Birkenau, he realizes that his childhood innocence has died. In addition, Elie uses the imagery of a child being hung with two older men to create sadness. They hang an innocent child and he is too light to be killed immediately so he is tortured in front of everyone for over 30 minutes, slowly dying from the rope around his neck. It was so obvious to him that prayer was a lifestyle. Eliezer felt so strange to be asked why he prayed and wept. He did not have an answer.

Eliezer studied the Talmud during the day. Every night he was devoted to the Qabalah. His efforts were to make him be closer with his merciful God. His enthusiasm for the knowledge of God caused him at a tender age though, want to have a master. The master was to explain to him the mysteries of God. Though his father ignored his request, Eliezer saw to it that he got one. God was merciful, full of compassion and love for His creatures.

He God did everything for the interest of the creation. It was close to impossible for Eliezer to have doubt in his faith. The tenacity with which he held to his faith was great. When his rabbi told him that he prayed to God to give him the strength to ask Him the right questions, he Eliezer was greatly puzzled. His doubt began at the camp where the Germans were their masters.

He saw great sufferings that the Jewish went through. The Jews were held hostage as prisoners at the concentration camp. When Eliezer saw the great humiliation and physical and mental torture they went through, he wondered if God still existed. At the very beginning of the book, Wiesel shows his strong devotion to God but as he personally experiences the Holocaust, Wiesel becomes cynical of his religious beliefs.

He is gone a few months and upon his return he tried to warn everyone about the Nazis. No one listens and they call him crazy. Shortly after arriving in the ghettos, the Jews were told to puck because they were being transported.
