The name might be a little ambitious, but 1. World generation was updated, adding birch forests, flower forests, roofed forests, savannahs, mesas now called badlands , and more.
This of course also included the blocks that are found in all those biomes - most notably the two new wood types of acacia and dark oak. It may not have actually changed the world, but Minecraft's landscape owes a lot of how it looks today to 1.
The new biomes made exploration far more varied and exciting, providing copious new areas to call home, and countless new resources to utilize. When Microsoft acquired Mojang - the then-indie studio behind Minecraft - in , many players feared the game's direction would change for the worse.
The prophecy of change came true four years later, but the community's fears were alleviated and it became clear Mojang's attitude towards the game was not worsening - merely widening in scope. The only reason the Update Aquatic doesn't place higher is that it's outshined by the even more transformative updates that followed. Arguably the most controversial update in the history of Minecraft , 1. Many PvP-fans hated this change so much, they still play on pre The Combat Update did far more than change fighting, though - most notably, it added End Cities, and while their native Shulkers wouldn't find much use for several more months, the Elytras the cities held were incredible.
A pair of wings that allowed players to glide through the sky at incredible speeds, Elytras alone make 1. While this would all be made a bit redundant in the following years, it was exciting at the time, providing a great incentive to explore, with a fantastic reward for the challenge the Mansions posed.
It also added observers, which are certainly deserving of a shout-out. That's not what really made 1. It took what 1. Shulkers now dropped shulker shells, which could be crafted into portable chests, and Elytra users could propel themselves with firework rockets.
Originally supposed to all be one update, Caves and Cliffs was split into two halves to ease the burden on the design team and avoid the need for unhealthy crunch time - a very understandable decision.
Deepslate, moss, dripleaf, tuff, geodes, copper, axolotls, and more were all introduced, despite this being a "half-update". Jokes aside, while this update appears small on the surface, in reality, it's anything but. Bees came with a ton of new mechanics , interacting with farms and being an interesting mob to work with in themselves. Their honey also had a lot of uses, serving as a foodstuff or a decorative honeycomb, and honey blocks were huge for Redstone.
What 1. The game was noticeably better to play afterward, and while The Buzzy Bees may be remembered for its eponymous fuzzy friends, the colossal amount of behind-the-scenes fixes did not go unappreciated. For many, the piece de resistance so far of Minecraft's newer style of updates is the Nether update. Overhauling not just a whole biome, but an entire dimension, 1. Many didn't even realize how bland the Nether was prior to 1. In a lot of ways, 1.
The next 3 updates released were minor, adding a few new features like jungle biomes, desert villages, villagers, and a few miscellaneous blocks.
This allowed for more exploration opportunities. The first major update, 1. It also added the Wither, which was a new boss you could defeat. Update 1. This allowed players to expand on their creativity and create powered machinery in their words. Players could now craft several new blocks, and an update was added where there were different types of doors.
A new boss was added, called the Elder Guardian, as well as a new structure called a sea temple, where players would go to defeat the boss. It allowed players to explore deeper into the end after beating the Ender Dragon. Players could now go through a second portal and explore end islands. End cities were created, where players were challenged to fight a new mob called Shulkers to work towards getting elytra.
The elytra are wings that allow players to glide through the air. One significant change was allowing players to craft beds that could be any color, instead of the default bed, which was always red. It added a large number of sea creatures such as the turtle, tropical fish, dolphin and the hostile mob called the drowned.
It also expanded sea life by adding coral in various colors, tridents as weapons and new ocean temperatures.
For example, there were Frozen Oceans with icebergs and Warmer Oceans with coral and tropical animals. Updates 1. It included many new useful blocks for villagers, which improved trades. It also added pillagers and a pillager outpost. These hostile mobs will attack you. They also added a new feature called raids, which are when pillagers attack villages and you, as the player, have to defend the village.
Also new in the Deep Dark are the big ancient city structures that you can find down in the dark. When an enemy dies near one, it will convert nearby blocks on the ground to Skulk Blocks, which you can mine to gather experience. Lauren loves long books and even longer RPGs. She got a game design degree and then, stupidly, refused to leave the midwest. She plays indie games you haven't heard of and will never pass on a story about players breaking games or playing them wrong.
